2024 DIBS REQUIREMENTS

 

The NYBA will be collecting checks for the DIBs volunteer program, requiring a commitment of 5 hours per HOUSEHOLD.  

Families are required to provide a check for $300 prior to participating in tryouts/evaluations for Travel or prior to the start of the season for Community Rec League and all younger leagues. These checks will be held during the season. 

If at the end of the 2024 season the household has completed the required volunteer hours, their check will be destroyed. However, if a household’s volunteer requirement has not been met by the end of the 2024 NYBA season, their check will be deposited into the NYBA account. Please note, if a deposited check does not have sufficient funds when it is deposited, a return fee will be invoiced to the member and/or applied to future registrations.

Volunteering is essential to any youth organization and we strongly encourage you to be involved in helping to make the season a successful one for our kids.  However, if you think your family will not be able to fulfill the DIBs requirement we are now offering a buyout option.  To participate in the buyout option, families must submit a check for $200. Buyout checks are also due at tryouts/evaluations or prior to the season and  will be deposited at the time of receipt. 

Families of rostered coaches, board members and travel team managers will be exempt from the required hours associated with DIBs.

We will be posting DIBs hours on our website under the DIBs tab as they become available. To claim tasks, you must be signed in to the same Sportsengine account as your baseball registration.

COACHING!

As a volunteer organization we rely on parent volunteers to coach our In-House teams!  Coaches are a MUST for the our kids to be out on the field playing baseball.  As stated above, rostered coaches are given DIBs credits for their time.  We work to pair coaches in coaching groups to help distribute the workload as we know everyone is busy with family, work and vacations during the summer.  As part of the registration you will have the chance to indicate your willingness to coach. 

If you indicate your CAN coach, please plan to be a part of the coaching team for your child.  Coaches will be assigned to the same team as their player.  If something changes and you are no longer able to fulfill these duties please let us know right away as last minute changes and changes after the teams are rostered can greatly impact the team.  

Coaches will be REQUIRED to complete the TRUSTED COACHES certification courses (including Safe Sport, first aid and basic coaching ideals) every 3 years and background check every year.   We will send a link to the course prior to the season and ask that these are completed by the FIRST WEEK of the season so receive you DIBs credits for coaching.  **DIBs checks will be collected and held until Trusted Coaches certification can be verified


**Please note: if you choose to purchase the insurance at the end of the registration process you are welcome to do so,  however, those claims are through a private party.  Insurance is not necessarily required to receive a full refund, although NYBA may recoup uniform expenses if already ordered.  If you choose to request a refund from NYBA we are not able to refund any portion of your insurance purchase cost, only the league cost.**
