Families are required to supply a baseball glove.  Baseball pants and cleats (not metal) are also helpful, but not required.  An athletic supporter is also recommended.  If players have their own bat, batting helmet, etc. they are welcome to use their own.

Player Evaluations (Minors League)

Minor League players who wish to play on a tournament team should register through the Travel program for tryouts in the spring.  Registrations will transfer to the in-house program when tryouts are completed for in-house team placement.

In-house evaluations are for ALL registered Minors players NOT attending tryouts for a Tournament team.  Those players being evaluated for an Tournament and Travel team will not need to be re-evaluated.  Evaluations are used to balance the In-House teams.  The evaluations will focus on baseball skills: hitting, fielding, throwing and running.  All evaluators are third party and have no interest in evaluated players placement.

Evaluation times will be posted on the website in the In-House evaluation section.  There will also be an email sent to registered players regarding evaluation times.

NYBA Policies

(For additional policies and rules see league specific rules posted under the rules section under the in-house portion of the website.)

In-House Baseball League team coaches

Parent coaches will be selected for the In-House teams from those who indicate interest All coaches must pass a criminal background check.  All coaches must complete the Trusted Coaches Program. which includes instructional videos; concussion training and a background check.  All coaches are expected to conform to the guidelines set forth by the NYBA.

In-house Baseball League team playing time guidelines

All coaches will do their best to play all players equally each game in the infield and outfield.  Equal play does not mean that all players will pitch and catch equally. Pitcher and catcher positions will be at the discretion of the coach.  Pitcher will be considered an infield position and catcher will be considered outfield position.  Exceptions to this rule would be the following:  Player game/practice attendance issues, shortened game for any reason ( rainout, 10 run rule, time limit, etc.).

All players should be allowed to play multiple positions and must have the opportunity to play both infield and outfield.

Player safety should be taken into consideration when placing players at defensive positions.

There will be continuous batting and free substitution for all games.

For specific League level guidelines, please see corresponding Rules.

Game/practice attendance

Every player's presence is important.  Unless otherwise exempted by the coach, all players are expected to attend all practices and league games.  Excused absences will be granted for vacations, school, religious and family events.  However, it is expected that the coach will be notified in advance of such events.  Unexcused absences may result in a reduction of playing time at the coach’s discretion.
